Committed Leader

Sarah is a leader.
Since being elected in 2020, I was acclaimed as Vice Chairperson for two years, and in the fall 2023, I was elected as Regina Public Schools Chairperson.
Our school board has advocated for:
  • increased poverty reduction measures (for example: a National School Food Program and free public transportation for children and youth);
  • diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • land-based learning;
  • increased student voice;
  • improved playground accessibility policies;
  • climate action;
  • more supports for learning, reduced class-sizes, timely capital builds;
  • increased general funding and supports for public education.
I am a vocal advocate for our division and have worked hard to build policies and strategic goals that will enable all students to thrive.

As a teacher myself, I have a strong background in this field, with two degrees in Education (B.Education from Ottawa U and M.Education from U of R). Presently, I teach children's art classes from my home studio and I was formerly a high school teacher. Because of these experiences, I am in a good position to advocate for education, and how we can best support students and staff.

Engaged Trustee

Sarah is engaged.
Since being elected in 2020, I regularly engage with the school communities.  For example, I attend many of the ten Subdivision 5 SCC meetings and local community association AGMs. I make consistent efforts to engage and listen to the community.

You might have seen me volunteering at pancake breakfasts, Santa Shops, winter festivals, BBQs, teacher appreciation events, and school celebrations. I have attended community breakfasts, high school musicals, band concerts, track and field days, and community clean-ups. I walk in pride parades and participate in Pow wows, Feasts, and Round dances. I spoke at rallies in support of public education, at City Council Meetings (to advocate for free transportation for youth up to 18), and at Treaty 4 flag raisings. I also support as many school fundraisers as I can.

I have also attended countless Trustee PD opportunities in Regina, Saskatoon, and online. I have learned about topics ranging from Enterprise Risk Management, Anti-Racism, Truth and Reconciliation, the importance of Public Schools in Saskatchewan, Financial Literacy, Johnson Shoyama School of Business Governance leadership courses for executives, and more.

As a board, we have consistently advocated for increased, sustainable, and appropriate funding for public education. Quality public education is critical for our communities, and I will continue to engage with the community and  build support for this great public service.

Caring Parent

Sarah is a parent.
I live in Subdivision 5 with my partner Rob and our three children (ages 17, 14, 11). Our kids attend École Connaught Community School and Campbell Collegiate (both are Regina Public Schools). As a parent, I know the great impact public education has on all of us. Schools and their communities bring children, teachers, families, and community members together to learn from each other, work together, and foster a sense of belonging. I care very much about the people in this community.

I have a longtime commitment to volunteering in the community and I love meeting new people and helping out! I volunteered for 8 years on the Connaught SCC, where I helped build a community garden and raised over $100,000 to rebuild the playground. I volunteer with Regina Open Door Society bringing Syrian Refugees to Regina, and I was a former Girl Guides of Canada leader and member of End Poverty Regina. I presently sit on the South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra Board and I am the Visual Arts Coordinator for the Cathedral Village Arts Festival.

I care deeply about human rights, the arts, science, truth and reconciliation, the environment, student engagement, and inclusion. I will continue to work hard to make public education in Regina the best it can be.

I am also an artist who makes work about social justice, the environment, speaking up, beauty, motherhood and the cultural histories of women.
